A student should be aware that the main purpose for attending Arden Cahill Academy is to grow and mature physically, emotionally and academically to the best of his ability and that to obtain these goals he must participate actively and contribute positively to the program.
The purpose of homework is to teach the student responsibility and to provide additional reinforcement of learned skills. Homework will be part of the final grade. On Mondays, Kdg–4th grade will receive a weekly homework sheet. 5th -8th grade students will be assigned homework on a daily basis. Each assignment should be recorded in the assignment planner issued by the school. The planner is not to be used for anything except school assignments. Notes about or to and from other students are not to be written in or on the outside of the planner. There should be no pictures drawn in or on the outside of the planner. Only the “official” planner may be used and must be replaced at cost if lost. The average student should generally be able to complete homework in the following amounts of time:
Kindergarten: 1/2 hour
Grades 1 & 2: 1 hour
Grades 3 & 4: 1–1/2 hours
Grades 5–8: 2 hours
Each teacher's policy letter will explain the weight of homework.
Individual Development of Studies is offered to students at certain grade levels. This time is used to make up tests or quizzes missed due to absence or to make up work missed when there has been an excessive absence (longer than one week missed). A student may also use IDS Time if the academic teacher deems it necessary. It may be used for a limited amount of time when requested in writing by a parent. Approval for parental requests must be given through the academic office. IDS time is not to be used in place of tutoring.
Arden Cahill Academy is approved by the Louisiana State Department of Education.
